Katikati Primary School

My netball dream is...

15 September 2019 Dear ANZ, We wish to apply for $2,188 to upgrade our school netball uniforms. We currently do not have enough uniforms for our teams. The uniforms we have do not match and are a mix of dresses and very old skirts and tops. The teams have to share the uniforms to make it work and to take the court in matching uniforms. I have attached a picture of a group of our netballers in the wide range of uniforms we are currently sharing. Historically netball in Katikati was organised by the Katikati Netball Club but unfortunately this club folded a few years ago so it became the responsibility of the school. We had no uniforms, ball or equipment to help support our students to play. We were donated uniforms from the Katikati Netball Club when the club folded but these uniforms are very old, not school colours and over the years the numbers have depleted as they have fallen into disrepair. Many of our Year 6 girls are now taller and have more mature figures than in previous years so we are constantly battling to juggle the uniforms to make sure that we have enough to fit the older children. We also have boys beginning to play netball and there is currently no uniform available for them. New uniforms, that match our school colours, would help ensure that the children feel confident and proud as they step out to play sport. Being part of of a team builds confidence, physical skills and fitness. We would like our children to feel pride in playing for their school and build their love of sport and physical activity to ensure they enjoy netball in 2020 and stay involved in sport for many years into the future. Katikati Primary School is a rural primary school that currently has 558 pupils. By the end of 2019 we estimate our roll will be close to 600. While we are a decile 4 school the nature of our community means we have a very wide range of socio economic status and a large cultural mix. Being able to offer the opportunity to take part in extracurricular sporting opportunities is extremely important to the school and the wider community. Our netball teams are supported by volunteers from within the teaching staff and parent community to ensure that the teams, which are predominantly girls, have the opportunity to take part in netball. In 2019 we had over 50 children taking part in netball from year 1 to year 6. Our Year 5 and Year 6 teams travel through to Tauranga to take part in the Tauranga competition each week. We have raised $1,000 from the local community but do not want to put any more costs onto our whanau. We received 2 quotes for netball uniforms and have decided to go with UniformNZ. This would allow us to outfit 3 netball teams in new uniforms. Please support our tamariki to stay active. Thank you for considering our application. Yours sincerely, Jayne Harray Katikati Primary School Netball Co-ordinator 0273036127
