My netball dream is...
We are situated in a rural town in the heart of Ngapuhi, Kaikohe, Northland.
Kaikohe East School is a decile 1 school and we have 288 students enrolled here.
Our students take pride in all they do and strive to be courteous, co-operative, considerate and use common sense. We try and teach our students to be good leaders and show manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, kotahitanga and rangatiratanga in our community and towards other people inside and outside of our school.
This year we had organised 3 netball teams, 30 girls. They played in the Future ferns grade at our local Bay of Islands Netball Association in Kaikohe. Their ages range from our little 5 year olds through to 11 year olds.
Over the years our school has provided our children the opportunity to play sport by paying sports fees which could be very expensive for parents and provided our children with a uniform. The school pays also for basketball, hockey, soccer and rugby fees. We strongly believe that children should be involved and encouraged to be involved in a sporting activity to help build self confidence, self belief, physical strength, know how to be a good team member and in the long term become better leaders. This year we have had an increase in our netball numbers especially in the junior area of our school.
Our girls are in great need of uniforms as over time uniforms have faded and are not in great condition due to wear and tear. For one team we used an old uniform that didn't match at all and we really felt aroha for them. I know that ANZ will put smiles on our girls faces and know that these netball players will be part of a team that they will be proud to represent their school and community.
The support we had from our parents and whanau as coaches and managers was amazing. They were out there every Saturday morning at 8.30am warming the girls up for their games even when some mornings were very cold and wet. Our managers and coaches were not the only dedicated to netball but so were our girls. This was one way that we were able to get to know parents and whanau.
Thanking you very much,
Kaikohe East Netball Teams 2019
