Parawai School

My netball dream is...

Pārāwai School is a primary school located in the small town of Thames on the Coromandel Peninsula and, as in most small regional New Zealand towns, sporting activities comprise a huge part of our community’s lives. Many of our students are dedicated sports people, not the least our netballers. They play netball, not only at school but also representing Pārāwai School after school and on weekends. Over the last couple of years we’ve had a big increase in the number of younger children at Pārāwai School keen to play netball. They look up to their older fellow school students, especially to our senior year 7 and year 8 netball players, aspiring to be like them. This is fantastic - for the students, for Pārāwai School and for netball in general. We do not however have any smaller sized netball uniforms for these eager junior players, who instead wear their Pārāwai School uniform when playing netball. In 2018 we were able to acquire new netball dresses for our senior teams via a Pub Charity grant and the players were thrilled to receive their new netball dresses. We have noticed how this has contributed even more to the overall strong sense of pride and camaraderie within the senior teams. We would really love to be able to provide the same opportunity for our junior teams and believe the wearing of a comfy, well fitted team uniform is the basis of building team spirit, underpins a sense of pride and belonging and this will reinforce and encourage our juniors’ participation in and commitment to netball. To this end, we have acquired a quote for 21 netball uniforms for the younger children, to be fashioned in the same style as the senior’s netball dresses, but made as skirts and tops so that the sizes can be mixed and matched to cater for young growing bodies. I’m sure you can appreciate how children all grow at different rates and proportions! Alongside this we also need netball bibs for the junior teams. Since the modification of the game, we do not have the correct ‘A’ and ‘D’ bibs to match this new learning. Four sets of new bibs would enable us to provide each of our four junior teams with a set to practise in for the entire season. The total cost for 21 netball skirts and tops along with 4 sets of junior bibs would be $2,605.00 GST exclusive as quoted. Unfortunately, our school funding does not extend to cover items such as these. We, and especially our junior aspiring netballers, would be delighted if ANZ is able to make this happen for us. Having ANZ on our team would be just AWESOME! Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity.
