Hawke's Bay Community Fitness Centre Trust
My netball dream is...
We are submitting an application for grant funding support of our community project to provide health and wellbeing services to the community of Hawke’s Bay through the access to sports facilities and equipment.
Hawke's Bay Community Fitness Centre Trust’s (HBCFCT) vision is to establish a world class sports and recreation hub and community health centre at the Hawke's Bay Regional Sports Park, supporting all age groups across the Hawke's Bay regionh.
Adjacent to the Hawke’s Bay Netball Centre, the facility includes an indoor community sports & recreation hall, a performance gym for athlete development, a community health & fitness gym, a sprint track for speed & fitness testing and a sport & health clinic. It is a transformational project for the health and wellbeing of the Hawke’s Bay population, with programmes for the whole community, from encouraging health and wellbeing for all ages through to sports and recreation development in schools and clubs.
We have been delivering programmes in strength development and health in schools and regional sports organisations across Hawke’s Bay from Central Hawke’s Bay, Hastings and Napier to Wairoa since mid-2016. This will grow significantly once we are in the new facility. Netball has been a key partner on our journey to this point and will be an anchor sport in our new facility. We have one and a half indoor courts (three poles and pads required) that will be used for training purposes by Hawke’s Bay Netball and other performance level netball teams. Netball will also be part of our schools and community programmes.
The community sports & recreation hall is a key additional indoor space that Hawke’s Bay has been missing for a long time and will cater for all age groups of the community including our own programmes for children. We have a Sport and Life programme with the Flaxmere schools that has been growing each year and being able to increase the opportunities will only enhance the outcomes and increase the number of attendances. In 2019 we are replicating this programme for primary schools in Wairoa after two years of working with the College. This involves outreach by our team and includes visits to the Regional Sports Park for the children. Inspiration and aspiration are a key influence on the children, their learning and their behaviour.
No doubt ANZ is fully aware of the growing health and social issues being faced in our region and beyond. We are venturing on a pathway that will improve the wellbeing of the Hawke’s Bay population. ANZ can play a small part in what will be a legacy facility and movement for all of Hawke’s Bay.
