My netball dream is...
Thank you for the opportunity of submitting our application for the ANZ DREAM BIG NETBALL GRANT. The Te Awamutu year 7 netball rep team had a fantastic season. The girls instantly bonded & it was lovely to see them grow in strength & friendship as the season went on. They won 25 from 27 games but it was their sportsmanship & team spirit that really stood them apart. The girls came to every practise focussed & committed to improving & learning under the guidance of their amazing coach Theressa Ball. Theressa has spoken of how proud she is of the girls & the effort & 100% commitment & never give up attitude. Sunday tournaments meant very early starts for the girls, often getting up at 5am to travel to various locations. They had back to back tournament wins in Te Awamutu & Morrisonville. Runners up in Rotorua & came back to their winning form in Tauranga. The last tournament saw them have a loss in their pool. This was the first time the girls had not made the finals. We were very proud that they bounced back instantly & all chose to stay for the finals & support the team that beat them. They cheered loudly on the side lines much to the surprise of the other team! Sometimes it is when a team loses you see what the character of the girls really is. The journey through the representative season has been exciting, challenging & pretty full on. A bond not only on the court but off as well. We love that netball has bought together girls from all backgrounds & created a team with a winning culture.
We would like to take these talented girls to Australia through Student Horizons to participate in a week long netball education trip where they will be having game days with various schools & 2 professional training sessions. We believe this will test their skills, broaden their horizons & create lasting lifetime memories for all of them. The cost for this trip for 10 girls works out to $27,000. The girls are very committed to fundraising but as this is quite a large amount of money would love to be considered for the ANZ Dream Big grant.
“When we came together I emphasised the expectation that setting a Team Goal was paramount. This was to be supportive & respectful of each other as players, coaching staff & officials, this would in turn carry us through to complete an outstanding & rewarding season. Recognition of the honour to be a part of the Helen Dodge Memorial Tournament enabled the team to lift to another level. While still playing their own game in terms of strong, simple, drilled netball, these talented young athletes worked tirelessly as a defined unit showing determination & true grit to come out on top & take away another successful WIN. It has been an absolute privilege for me to coach a side of dedicated young ladies who have come together from different backgrounds, schools & clubs to attain the one thing in common RESPECT & ONE TEAM. I am proud of each & everyone one who has been part of our success journey” Theressa Ball
