My netball dream is...
Kia Ora,
2 year ago I lost my son Weston to a rare skin disease at the age of 8weeks old. This was a very dark time in my life. I wanted his name to live on for generations to come and create a legacy. But the question was 'how am i going to do this?
I decided to run Academies for Touch Rugby and Netball being a NZ rep for Touch and a provincial rep for netball. These were my strengths.
This was the only way to keep me going is by knowing i am creating a legacy for my son for all children to benefit from.
After months and months of hard work and using my own finances i opened a Sports Centre call Weston Sports. I run academies during the school holidays for from ages 5- 15.
I teach the children things i would have wanted to teach my son Weston. It's not all about the skills & drills of netball we introduce the children to fitness testing, teach them how to lead, how to work as a team, encourage them to respect the officials and coaches / managers and basically have fun and love life.
I like to see Weston Sports as a safe haven to all children. We are based just out of Flaxmere where a lot of children don't have many opportunities.
My dream is to get Weston Sports a big and bold sign on the road and have our building vibrant and bright with art work so no-one can miss us. I often get told we were 'hard to find' or 'i never new this place existed' because we are a plain shed look and our sign is small and has no lighting. I haven't been able to do this as all our funds go back to the community to keep the fee nil / low.
I have over 100 members and see new faces all the time. I love what i do and i know my son will be proud of what i have done for the community to enjoy and benefit from. Weston Sports has been my saving grace and has changed lives of many.
