My netball dream is...
We are in the process of introducing a Netball programme, as the result of a driving school and community commitment to see it implemented. Previously our sports were offered by an outside organisation and participation was low, with little promotion on sporting outcomes within the school. This year with a new leadership team and strong school body encouragement and support, sport was brought in house.
Netball was a popularly requested code, we had a great response, starting the season with 4 teams competing from Year 1 up, and we know we will need more teams next year. We’d love to build on this enthusiasm and continue to grow the interest in netball, as well as develop our players, teams, and coaches.
While we have a long wishlist of items for our squad the thing we would love the most is school designed uniforms. Our current uniforms are second hand ones donated to us and are old, worn and sizing will be a problem as the sport grows. The main issue is they’re not our team's and have another logo. We’re looking at badges as a way to brand ourselves as Gulf Harbour School, rather than the team who donated them, but it would be an absolute dream to play in new GHS uniforms.
Uniforms will give a sense of pride to our newly established teams, providing a strong team identity, and boosting self-confidence by looking united, professional and proudly showing we represent GHS! Our kids love playing for the school, they would love it even more with team uniforms!
We hope an ANZ Dream Delivery can make this come true.
It’d be a long time before we could make this a reality on our own. With sport new in the school all of our codes are all looking for uniforms, equipment and training. We also have a project other schools do not have to fund meaning we have to carefully prioritise all our needs.
Our fundraising focus has been for some years, building a multi-purpose Hall that when constructed will further enhance our netball development by providing an indoor facility we can use for practice, training and skills coaching, and research shows these types of facilities lead to enhanced sport outcomes. Our school was built without a Hall, and the government will not fund construction, even though new schools are now built with halls, and we’re one of a few who do not have a large indoor facility. We have to fund this ourselves, a huge task to undertake absorbing most of our fundraising efforts, but long term it will be invaluable.
This is a major challenge most schools do not face, meaning that funds are greatly required and why receiving an ANZ Dream Delivery for our budding netball stars would be truly a dream come true.
It’s been a steep path bringing Netball to our school; our coaches, managers and most of all players have had to learn and adapt quickly, and our progress shows the commitment of our teams to their sport. We’re so excited to see how well they’re doing but most of all how much they enjoy playing netball.
Thank you!
