FLYING DIAMONDS NETBALL CLUB

My netball dream is...

Flying Diamonds Netball Club (FDNC) started in Otara, South Auckland in 2013 when our Head Coach, Ta'i Tupa, wanted her granddaughter to play in the Otara competition. In 2017, there are now 7 strong teams, from primary to senior grades with a Committee comprising of 6 managers, 5 coaches and 3 qualified referees - all local volunteers sharing Ta'i's passion to empower our players to "BE THE VERY BEST WE CAN BE!" This includes a positive attitude, respect for self and others, loyalty, love for family and friends - both on or off the court! As a Pasifika club in the heart of South Auckland, we humbly ask ANZ to help us achieve FDNC's BIG NETBALL DREAM: To create more opportunities for our players to excel in netball with professional training sessions, new equipment, development workshops for our volunteers and support with our overseas travel to a Pacific Island netball tournament. We strongly believe that FDNC are worthy recipients for an ANZ dream delivery because our players LOVE netball and have so much potential, training 3 days a week RAIN OR SHINE and playing extra Sunday tournaments for more exposure. However, many or our players come from broken homes in Otara and struggle to pay for the fees, uniforms and even appropriate sports shoes. Despite these financial hardships, everyone works hard to fundraise so that none of our players miss out - even with Ta'i selling Ck Island food every Sat to help meet ongoing costs! New netball gears such as netballs, court cones, agility ladders & hurdles, bibs, equipment bags, stop watches etc would make a BIG difference in the way we train. Extra FDNC uniforms, jackets, track pants, a pop up tent & club banner would make our players look and feel more unified and professional (and keep warm and dry in the winter!). Training workshops with their role models from the NZ Silver Ferns would be absolutely LIFE CHANGING for our players (and their families) who aspire to representative netball at regional, national and international levels. Two years ago, FDNC fund-raised to take a team to the Ck Islands for a South Pacific netball tournament. Those girls are loyal to FDNC, with a strong sisterhood now mentoring younger players, learning how to referee and leading our fundraising to take more teams overseas again. We are proud to say that all our teams are currently heading towards the final championships for their sections - a tribute to all the hard work and support from Ta'i, the Committee, players and their families. To have all this come to life would not only inspire over 70 young players (incl. a young male superstar!) to excel beyond their own personal dreams but have a much more significant & lasting impact on our Club and Otara community by bringing out EXCELLENCE and resilience in our local youth. We want to expand their horizons, despite their socio-economic backgrounds, and show them that netball can take them BEYOND SOUTH AUCKLAND – it can take them AROUND THE WORLD! Thanks :)
