My netball dream is...
TIMARU RURAL SCHOOL NETBALL
APPLICATION FOR ANZ DREAM BIG
We are The Timaru Rural Schools Netball cluster and we are DREAMING BIG to have all our teams wearing the same uniform so they not only look part of our group but we want them to feel they all belong to The Timaru Rural School Netball Cluster.
Timaru Rural Schools Netball combines students from the small rural South Canterbury schools of Cannington, Barton Rural, Beaconsfield, St Andrews and Timaru Christian, allowing our year 1 - 8 pupils the opportunity to play netball in the ANZfutureFerns netball development programme at Aorangi Stadium, Morgan’s Road, Timaru.
In 2015 Netball South Canterbury asked the smaller schools to join with a local netball club in order for children to play with others who had similar skill levels. With our small schools, we had been experiencing difficulties putting together teams as, individually, our numbers were limited. Netball South Canterbury was concerned that players from smaller schools were not developing netball skills and when they reached high school they were not on the same level as players from the larger primary schools in our region.
Our thoughts were that if we joined with a club we would lose the rural school's identity so, with this in mind, a group of school representatives, with the support of Principals and our communities, formed the Rural Schools Netball Cluster. Our 14 teams have fantastic enthusiasm towards netball and a great team spirit always volunteering to help substitute for each other’s teams if needed. This is why our girls deserve to have their big dream come true.
This is our second year of operating as a cluster and we have already seen these children grow with, not only the game of netball, but socially inside and outside of school. It has made our communities closer and has made transition to high school easier with school links and friendships seen at other rural school events such as athletics and cross country. Funding is difficult as we are not eligible for most funding as we are not registered as a club and do not fit any criteria.
Our players, volunteer coaches and managers along with our committee/schools have worked really hard to make this cluster and keep it, this makes us proud to see the girls enjoying their netball and developing. By allowing our players to DREAM BIG we would be able to cement our identity by purchasing a Timaru Rural Schools Netball uniform for our Saturday playing teams.
We received 3 quotes from different companies our best quote was from BLK for 70 uniforms @ $60.00 = $4200 excluding GST
Yours faithfully
