My netball dream is...
Our first netball dream is for new gear bags and uniforms for our Senior A netball team. Each year the Senior A team changes as new players are recruited and others leave school. As the shape and height of players are different each year, we are at the stage where the girls are wearing old faded dresses and some have very short dresses, as this was all that was available from previous years.
It would be nice to have some funding to help the team get new dresses. As manager, I believe new uniforms would help them to feel unified as a team and allow them to be proud of how they. Team pride and moral always helps bond the girls and I believe a fresh new uniform will help boost team moral.
The gear bags we have currently been using are old and have seen the A team through many seasons and tournaments throughout New Zealand. Unfortunately, as past team members have moved on from school, they have taken their bag with them, which has currently left the team short! The bags are important as the team play in the Wellington RSSL and local competition. They also attend lower North Islands and require a decent, matching bag that is easy to spot among other schools. The team is currently raising the funds needed to get them to tournament so the gear bags have been put down the priority list. As manager of the team, I think it would be a lovely surprise if the girls were able to be gifted new gear bags. The bags would be carefully managed and kept as a team kit so they can be re used from year to year and benefit generations of Wairarapa College netballers.
Finally one last dream would be to have some funding allocated for the umpire academy established at school. To ensure the sustainability of netball in the Wairarapa our head of netball has established an umpiring academy to encourage young players to engage and be trained as umpires. This will benefit the whole of the Wairarapa netball community because without umpires, netball would not be possible. Quality umpires are always appreciated so our school has put time and effort into training up young, interested students who will be able to provide umpiring services to community netball throughout their college life.
Currently we have an enthusiastic mother helping the girls, providing support and training but it would be nice to have some funding so we can get outside help and resources to train the girls. The mother is a volunteer and we appreciate the time she commits to netball but some funding to assist her would be greatly accepted.
To conclude, netball is very strong at Wairarapa College and there is always a need for something netball associated to improve the game within our school but often we do not have the funding. I understand that not all dreams come true but we would greatly appreciate any offerings that would make the netball community within our school and community stronger.
Kind regards,
Senior A Manager
