St Peters College, Gore Netball Club
My netball dream is...
At St Peters College in Gore which is a relatively small school we have a strong netball committee where we organise thirteen netball teams to play on Saturday mornings.
We believe that netball provides a great opportunity for our children to participate in a healthy, community orientated and fun sport and that netball plays a very important role in our town.
Every year we send three teams to tournaments and our dream is to send our girls away to these tournaments dressed in a team tracksuit.
The schools Year 10A and Year 9A teams travel to Christchurch for the South Island Junior Tournament and our Senior A Team travels to the South Island
Secondary School Tournament. Each team also attends three other smaller tournaments during the season.
We fundraise to cover the expenses for these trips and make every effort not to ask the families to have to contribute from their own funds as we do not want to cause any financial strain.
Because of this we use all the funds we raise to cover travel and accommodation and we have not been able to purchase tracksuits for the players.
We strongly believe if our girls were wearing a smart tracksuit their team morale would be boosted when they are on tournaments and they would feel proud in their team colours and foster a
real sense of team belonging.
The majority of competitors at the South Island tournaments do have a common team tracksuit and whilst it is certainly the correct approach not to place
additional pressure on families whose budget does not allow for additional expenditure, it would be wonderful to have the teams presented in the same manner
as the competitors they meet at tournament.
Team tracksuits is our dream and we hope with ANZ’s assistance we can achieve this as it would be a huge boost to our dedicated and talented netballers of the future.
